In 1976, the Isle of Arran Museum Association and the Isle of Arran Museum Trust were formed. They are non profit making bodies run by residents of Arran. The Trust enjoys charitable status and is assisted by subscriptions and gifts from members of the Association and grants and gifts from a number of Charities and public bodies. All staff at Arran Heritage Museum are paid at least the real living wage and are given appropriate channels for effective workers voice as defined in Fair work guidance.
The purpose of the Museum is to record, preserve and illustrate Arran’s history. The items on display have been donated by the people of Arran or those with Arran connections.
Our Volunteer Team

Fair Work Practice
Isle of Arran Heritage Museum is committed to ensuring there are fair working practices in place and is committed to following the Scottish Government’s Fair Work First policy.
Effective Voice
We support the effective voices of our team at all levels of the organisation through meetings and informal dialogue. This includes encouraging openness, transparency, and tolerance of different opinions.
Opportunity
We operate a fair and transparent recruitment process with all job opportunities advertised internally and externally through social media and the local press. We invest in training for all our staff focusing on organisational priorities and individual personal development.
Security
The Museum never issues zero-hour contracts and opposes the use of fire and rehire practice. We are committed to paying the Real Living Wage as a minimum for all posts.
Fulfilment
The Museum recognises the challenges of busy lives via the provision of flexible and family friendly working practices that include home- working where possible. We invest in training and skills development for employees in current and future roles.
Respect
Staff are entitled to be treated with respect and dignity at work and have a personal responsibility for ensuring that they treat others the same. We consider dignity at work to mean being free to work without experiencing bullying, harassment, and discrimination.
Health and Safety for each of our employees is central to the Museum.
We seek at all times to work with individuals on their needs to balance work and family life.
